Who Do You Want to Be Today?
People love personality quizzes, partly because we like knowing where we fit in.
We like discovering why one person walks into a yarn shop with a carefully written list while another walks out carrying six skeins of something sparkly without the faintest idea what they’re going to make.
We like recognizing ourselves in the answers.
But there's one problem.
Most personality quizzes want to decide who you are forever. You answer a handful of questions, receive a tidy little label, and apparently that is the end of the matter.
No changing your mind, no waking up in a different mood, no becoming an entirely different yarn creature because somebody touched the skein you had already claimed with your eyes.
That didn’t feel right to us, because yarn lovers rarely have the same personality day in and day out.
Some days, you may be careful, focused, and counting every stitch.
Other days, you may be surrounded by color, working on three different projects, and ignoring the perfectly reasonable voice asking whether you already have enough yarn.
You may spend one evening making something soft and comforting for someone you love, then wake up the next morning ready to say exactly what everyone else is thinking.
Any of these can be true, and I know I experience changes daily.
The idea became clearer during conversations about the personality styles Leslie and her longtime friend Sandy had learned years ago.
They had spent plenty of time noticing how people could show different parts of themselves depending on the situation.
- Sandy might feel calm and careful one day, then bring out an entirely sassier version of herself the next.
- Jerry took the quiz and landed in a combination that was thoughtful, calculated, and decisive.
- Angie immediately understood the playful personalities and the yarn-filled world they belonged in.
- Even Leslie noticed that the side of her running a business did not always look like the side of her sitting down with a crochet hook.
That was when the real question appeared.
Not:
“Who are you?”
But:
“Who do you want to be today?” (Yes, Danny Elfman fans, I hear it too 🤣)
That question changed everything.
The quiz didn’t need to place someone inside one permanent box, it could offer a closet full of yarn identities.
Maybe:
- Cozy today.
- Colorful tomorrow.
- Organized when the pattern gets complicated.
- Sharp-hook energy when the occasion requires it.
Maybe you’re drawn to one personality most often, maybe you bounce between two. And maybe you take the quiz for yourself one day and for a gift recipient the next.
There’s no wrong answer, only the version of you that walked through the door today.
